St. Maarten – Eighty candidates have completed their training as interviewers for the How Healthy is Sint Maarten/Saint Martin? public health survey.

The University of the US Virgin Islands facilitated the training through its collaboration with the University of St. Martin, the Department of Statistics and three health care professionals volunteering their time and skills for the initiative.

The training, spread over five evenings, was hosted by representatives from both the Dutch- and French-side governments, under the auspices of the Observatory of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin.

The Minister of the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour Rafael Boasman, his acting Secretary General Joy Arnell, the head of the public health department Fenna Arnell, the second Vice President of the Collectivité of Saint Martin in charge of health and social affairs, Ramona Connor, and the fourth Vice President, Rosette Gumbs-Lake, along with the President of the Observatory, Dr. Louis Jeffry recognized the participants for their contribution to the study and the importance of their participation.

The President of the board and director of USM, Valerie Giterson-Pantophlet and Dr. Francio Guadeloupe, congratulated the participants on a job well done.

At a follow-up training a selection will be made of the interviewers that will go out into the field to execute the survey.

Citizens will see the interviewers going door-to-door to randomly selected households shortly.
